Local Artist J. J. Watts designed the Tampa Police Memorial representing those Officers who gave the ultimate sacrifice to the Community, Department and Family. The silhouette of the officer represents the officer is missing from the Community, Department and Family. The firearm, hat, baton, gun belt are the tools of the trade. The poem “ The Monument” was written by retired L.A.P.D.Sergeant George Hahn. The names of those honorable officers are etched here in granite for eternity. The original Monument was dedicated on December 1, 1997.
The Thin Blue Line Project began in February of 2011 to enhance the original monument. The Thin Blue Line Project represents the thin line that separates the lawful from the lawless.
This Monument was made possible by donations from the City of Tampa, the Tampa Police Department, Citizens of Tampa, Tampa Police Memorial Fund and a generous contribution by Sykes Enterprises. On March 24, 2011 at 8:00 p.m. the Thin Blue Line Project was dedicated at the Tampa Police Department, One Police Center, 411 N. Franklin Street, Tampa, FL 33602. In attendance was Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio, Chief of Police Jane Castor and the Tampa Police Memorial Committee.
