SUMMARY:50th Remembrance Ceremony Officer Anthony Williams
DESCRIPTION:Officer Anthony Williams was shot and killed while off duty when he interrupted an armed robbery at a convenience store in Tampa. \nA reserve deputy from a neighboring agency was in the back room\, waiting to make an arrest attempt. \nThe reserve deputy hid in the back room when he noticed a robbery was going to happen. At the same time\, Officer Williams\, who was off duty\, arrived at the scene with his wife\, also a Tampa police officer and who was still in uniform\, after getting off duty. As she stayed in the car with their 4-year-old son\, Officer Williams attempted to enter the store when he saw the robbery taking place. He yelled to his wife to toss him her service revolver. As he retrieved the revolver\, the gunman stepped out and shot him. As the gunman ran\, Officer Williams’ wife retrieved her revolver and shot him in the buttocks. \nThe reserve deputy shot and killed a second suspect as he ran out the door and then took custody of the third suspect. The suspects were charged with murder and robbery. \nThe 22-year-old gunman was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to death. In 1991 his sentence was commuted to life. As of November 22nd\, 2020\, he was still in prison.  The other suspect was sentenced to life. \nPatrolman Williams was a Vietnam War Veteran\, he was survived by his wife and young son.

SUMMARY:50th Remembrance Ceremony Sergeant Richard Lee Cloud
DESCRIPTION:Sergeant Richard Cloud was assassinated by members of the mob seven months after losing his job with the Tampa Police Department. \nAfter losing his job\, he worked on a federal task force fighting drug dealing and organized crime. He was shot when he answered his door at his home. \nThe suspect was arrested and executed in the late 1970s. \nAfter his death\, the Tampa Police Department posthumously reinstated Sergeant Cloud to his former position. \nSergeant Cloud was survived by his wife\, two children\, and mother.

DESCRIPTION:Mayor Jane Castor and Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw\, along with the Tampa Police Memorial Committee\, will pay tribute to all fallen officers and their family members on Wednesday\, May 1 at 7:00 PM in front of the Monument to Fallen Officers at One Police Center. \nThe ceremony will include the Tampa Police Honor Guard\, a 21-Gun Salute\, a Riderless Horse\, the St. Andrew’s Pipes & Drums of Tampa Bay\, and a flyover by the Tampa Police Aviation Unit. \nThe public is invited to join the men and women of the Tampa Police Department as we honor our thirty-two fallen officers\, and all those across the nation\, who lost their lives in the performance of their duties. \nFor those who cannot attend in person\, the ceremony will be live-streamed at www.facebook.com/TampaPD. \nAccording to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial\, since the first known line-of-duty death in 1786\, more than 23\,000 U.S. law enforcement officers have made the ultimate sacrifice. SUMMARY:Officer Richard S. Booth 80-Year Remembrance Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:This remembrance ceremony will take place in the 2nd floor lobby of Tampa Police headquarters. \nOfficer Booth was killed in a motorcycle accident at Louisiana Avenue and 11th Street while pursuing a vehicle. SUMMARY:Sgt. Gary S. Pricher 40-Year Remembrance Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:This remembrance ceremony will take place in the 2nd floor lobby of Tampa Police headquarters. \nSergeant Pricher was struck and killed by a drunk driver while assisting stranded bus passengers on I-4. He and five other officers were returning from a tactical response team seminar when they stopped to offer their assistance. While on the roadway a vehicle swerved and struck Sergeant Pricher and then fled the scene. The suspect was later apprehended and charged with manslaughter\, drunk driving\, and hit-and-run. SUMMARY:Officer Henry R. Lett 100-Year Remembrance Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:This remembrance ceremony will take place in the 2nd floor lobby of Tampa Police headquarters. \nOfficer Lett was shot and killed as he and his partner attempted to arrest a man for disorderly conduct. The officers had responded to a call of a man threatening to shoot a woman. As they approached him he ran into an alley and drew his weapon. Officer Lett returned fire at the same time and both were wounded. Officer Lett later succumbed to his wounds.

DESCRIPTION:This remembrance ceremony will take place in the 2nd floor lobby of Tampa Police headquarters. \nMaster Police Officer Lois Marrerro\, 40 years old and a 19 year veteran of the department\, was gunned down by a fleeing bank robbery suspect. Officer Marrero was on foot checking an apartment complex for the suspect when he opened fire. Three bullets struck Officer Marrero\, mortally wounding her. \nOfficer Marrero became the department’s first female Police Officer killed in the line of duty.

DESCRIPTION:Officer Madsen’s funeral service\, which is open to the public\, is scheduled to take place Tuesday\, March 16\, at 11 a.m. at Idlewild Baptist Church located at 18333 Exciting Idlewild Blvd\, Lutz\, FL 33548. \nFollowing the service\, a police procession will escort MPO Madsen to Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell\, FL – where a private service with full military honors will take place. \n\nMaster Police Officer Jesse Madsen was killed in the early hours of March 9\, 2021\, when his police vehicle was struck by a wrong way driver on Interstate 275. \nJust before 1:00 AM on Tuesday morning\, Tampa Police began receiving calls about a white vehicle driving southbound in the northbound lanes of I275 at a high rate of speed and swerving through the lanes. Within one minute of the original call\, the white sedan crashed into Officer Madsen’s police vehicle between the Hillsborough and Sligh Avenue exits. The impact killed both Jesse and the driver of the white sedan. Jesse moved his police vehicle into the path of the wrong-way driver to save the lives of others. \nJesse Madsen\, 45\, has a wife and three children: a 16-year-old son\, a 12-year-old son\, and a 10-year-old daughter. He dedicated his life to the safety and service of others – as a United States Marine combat veteran\, as a Police Officer in Lyndhorst\, Ohio\, and as a Police Officer in Shaker Heights Ohio. For the past 16 and a half years\, Jesse has served proudly as a Tampa Police Officer. Jesse was a seven-time recipient of the Tampa Police Department’s Life-Saving Award. \nJesse’s badge\, number 507\, will be retired and his name will be etched for eternity into the Tampa Police Fallen Officers Memorial. He is the 32nd Tampa Police Officer to make the ultimate sacrifice. He will never be forgotten.

DESCRIPTION:This remembrance ceremony will take place in the 2nd floor lobby of Tampa Police headquarters. \nOn December 04\, 1970\, Corporal Collier responded to St. Joseph’s Hospital on a call. Upon completion of the call\, he was advised he didn’t look well and should sit down. He then suffered his first heart attack. He was admitted to the hospital and on December 05\, 1970\, Corporal Collier had a second heart attack\, which was fatal.

SUMMARY:Officer Juan Nales 100 Year Remembrance Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:This remembrance ceremony will take place in the 2nd floor lobby of Tampa Police headquarters. \nPatrolman Juan Nales was shot and killed while walking a prisoner to jail. He and another officer had arrested the man after responding to reports of a suspicious person. As the three walked to jail the man attacked Patrolman Nales. He was able to gain control of Patrolman Nales’ service weapon and fatally shot him before fleeing on foot. \nPatrolman Nales was survived by his expectant wife and 13-month-old daughter.
